Thanks, John
John Hughes died yesterday, and out of total coincidence Katie and I had a copy of The Breakfast Club at the house, so we watched it. The more I think about his movies, the more I realize what a profound influence he had on me. And watching them as an adult, I now realize how pervasive his movies were throughout our childhood lives – he impacted a generation of kids! I’m still quoting his movies today.
I especially remember being totally obsessed with Ferris Beuller’s Day Off. In the eighth grade I watched Ferris Beuller’s Day Off every night for an entire week. On a family visit to Chicago, I copied his every step: leaning over the fence at the top of the Sears Tower, staring at Sunday In The Park, walking the streets of downtown Chicago where Ferris sang Twist and Shout, etc, etc. I even went so far as to buy every single album from the soundtrack to the movie, including high school favorites of mine like Yello, Big Audio Dynamite, and Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
Thanks, John.
