Happy Birthday to Me

Katie claims that a few years ago, after a few beers (more than a few?), I told her that I wanted a rocket birthday cake for my birthday – every year from now on.  I sang the praises of the rocket ship my mom made for me back when I was probably 8 years old, and said I wanted to have one of those again.  Mom – if you are reading this – do you have a picture of that cake?  I want it!

Katie took this theme to heart and has made a rocket cake for me every year since.

2006: Katie and Julia put together a rocket ship that measured about 5 feet in length.  Amazingly, I can’t seem to find a single picture of that cake.

2007: Katie built a rocket ship that very nearly could have taken a liftoff all by itself

2008: Admittedly, I can’t remember exactly what my cake was…  The only concrete evidence I have is this pile of candles:

Carrot Rocket Cake?

2009: Katie builds a space station cube out of homemade raspberry and lemon ice creams (2+ gallons!), cake and meringue. It would have made Stanley Kubrick proud and was thoroughly enjoyed by the birthday boy himself:

Happy birthday! Man, you throw an early birthday party and I completely forget the actual day, until half an hour before it’s over. Sorry.

It’s a pleasure sharing a birth month with you. Early Febs forever!

On a side note, I wonder why neither of us has pictures of the even-numbered-years’ cakes.
